Three ideals contained in the NAEYC and DEC codes of ethics

These ideals  and code of Ethics are significant to me because they speak to professionalism, the environment and the family's role. They put into motion what the educator will to provide a safe and healthy environment. They remind us that the families are a part of the journey and play a momentous role in their child education. I think these ideals and code of ethics should be posted in every classroom as a reminder to educators, administrator and families why we do what we do for our children.

NAEYC:

I-1.1—To be familiar with the knowledge base of early
childhood care and education and to stay informed through continuing education and training.

I-1.5—To create and maintain safe and healthy settings
that foster children’s social, emotional, cognitive, and
physical development and that respect their dignity
and their contributions.

I-1.7—To use assessment information to understand
and support children’s development and learning, to
support instruction, and to identify children who may
need additional services.
DEC:
1. We shall demonstrate in our behavior and language respect and appreciation for the unique value and human potential of each child.

2. We shall demonstrate the highest standards of personal integrity, truthfulness, and honesty in all our professional activities in order to inspire the trust and confidence of the children and families and of those with whom we work.

3. We shall strive for the highest level of personal and professional competence by seeking and using new evidence based information to improve our practices while also responding openly to the suggestions of others.

  1. I agree with you about the code of ethics being posted in our classrooms. I pretty much have said that this entire class. Once I learned the information printed in the NAEYC, I thought that to be the best information ever. I just believe it would serve as a good reminder every day.
